When Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos was released in 2002 there was an AoS mod released for it but it didn't do too well. That was the originally created by user Aeon64, and I believe that game was handed off to someone else that later worked on DotA but I'm not too sure. In 1998 there was Aeon of Strife for Starcraft.
